Position: Jewish Studies Teacher
Reports To: The Director of Jewish Life and Learning (DOJLL)
Job Purpose: To inspire students with a love of Judaism, facilitate Jewish learning, and cultivate skills for meaningful engagement with Jewish traditions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities 📚
- Deliver engaging instruction: Cover TaNaKH, Jewish holidays, mitzvot, tefilla, Jewish history, Israel, and middot (values).
- Collaborate: Work proactively with faculty and administration to support diverse learners’ academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs.
- Plan & Implement: Collaborate with grade-level teams to design and execute inspiring lessons that foster curiosity.
- Report & Record: Provide regular written progress reports and maintain confidential student records.
- Participate: Engage in faculty meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Assess: Assign, grade, and communicate expectations for classwork, homework, tests, and assignments.
- Communicate: Clearly convey learning objectives and student progress to students, parents, and the DOJLL.
- Prepare Lessons: Develop and deliver lesson plans utilizing instructional materials that promote active learning.
- Support Students: Monitor individual progress, using feedback to tailor teaching strategies.
- Classroom Management: Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills to foster a positive learning environment.
- Background Check: Must pass an initial fingerprint and background clearance check and maintain a valid clearance card.
Qualifications & Skills 🎓
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Proficiency in K-8 Judaic curriculum and Hebrew language
- Knowledge of Jewish observances, traditions, and rituals
- Ability to teach foundational Torah skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Technologically proficient with Google Suite and Google Classroom
- High energy and enthusiasm for working in a Jewish day school environment
- Preferred (not required): experience teaching Hebrew as a second language, in a pluralistic setting, working with K-8 children, and Responsive Classroom training
