About Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy

Located in metropolitan Philadelphia, Barrack serves students from grades 6-12 across the Delaware Valley, including Philadelphia, Allentown, southern New Jersey, and Wilmington, Delaware. We integrate a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum with essential Jewish and American values, guided by our four Derech Eretz principles: Honor, Moral Courage, Kindness, and Community.

Our mission is to prepare future leaders who work towards justice and compassion in the American, Jewish, and global communities. We celebrate Jewish history, language, and culture, and maintain a strong connection to Israel.

Position Overview 🎓

We are looking for a dynamic, caring, and experienced educator to fulfill the role of Full-Time Jewish Life Educator. The role begins August 1, 2026, and involves two core responsibilities:

  • Teaching Jewish Studies courses
  • Facilitating the Jewish Life Initiative (JLI)

The educator will mentor JLI students (11th and 12th graders) in designing Jewish holiday programs for grades 6-12 and developing leadership skills. They will also lead planning and execution of three major school Shabbatonim: one for 6th grade, one for 8th grade, and a combined Upper School Shabbaton for 9th-11th grades.

The candidate should be comfortable teaching Jewish sources (including Hebrew texts) and may teach rabbinics, theology, ethics, or Jewish culture. The role involves a reduced teaching load to focus on programming and mentorship.

Qualifications 📜

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a strong background in middle and high school education; Master’s or rabbinic ordination preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families
  • Proficiency in reading Jewish sources and Hebrew
  • Interest in developing and enhancing Jewish studies and Tanakh curricula
  • Committed to professional growth and development
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Kindness, patience, and a sense of humor
  • Proficiency in classroom technology (Google Suite, LMS platforms, email)

Salary will be commensurate with the highest degree obtained and years of teaching experience.
