About Malkhut 🕯️
Malkhut is a 9-year-old progressive Jewish spiritual community based in Western Queens (LIC, Astoria, Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, Woodside). We foster music, contemplative prayer, mindfulness meditation, text study, and social justice initiatives. Our vision is to create an inclusive community for spiritual seekers of all backgrounds, including Jewish individuals of all ages, families with children, interfaith couples, Jews of color, LGBTQ+ folks, and curious explorers. Our gatherings take place in rental spaces across Western Queens.
Malkhut’s Youth Institute for Spirituality and Action 🌍✨
This program nurtures a spiritual, mindful, and socially engaged Jewish community through its children, meeting on the first and third Saturday mornings for children from birth to 7th grade. Besides bi-monthly Shabbat gatherings, the institute offers holiday programming, Hebrew instruction, Bat/Mitzvah prep, and informal meet-ups. Our goal is to celebrate and explore Jewish diversity and plurality in an inclusive, collaborative environment. As our community grows, so does our enthusiasm for the future!
*Madricheh is the gender-neutral Hebrew term for "educational guide." At Malkhut, we perceive our teachers as guides and sources of knowledge, helping children explore their Jewish identities. Teachers may choose the form that resonates with them—madrich (male), madricha (female), madricheh (gender-neutral). The gender-neutral plural is madrichimot. Learn more about our use of gender-neutral Hebrew at the Nonbinary Hebrew Project.
Inclusive Hiring 🌈🤝
Women, LGBTQ+ individuals, Jews of color, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Research indicates that qualified women, BIPOC, and other minority candidates may hesitate to apply if they do not meet 100% of the criteria. We urge individuals with the relevant skills and passion to submit an application!
Application Process ✉️
Interested candidates should send their resume and cover letter to the Director of Malkhut’s Youth Institute, including a description of their commitment to and experience working in small, start-up community settings:
