Job Details
- Position: (2) Japanese Translator / Interpreter Night Shift
- Location: Reno
- Assignment Duration: Minimum from April 1 to May 31, with potential extension
- Schedule & Flexibility: Night Shift (7pm-7am) with support for Day Shift as needed
- Work Hours: 40 hours per week
- Placement Type: Contract
Job Summary
The Interpreter must be proficient in both spoken and written Japanese and English. Ideally, candidates are bilingual or native speakers of either language with at least ILR Level 3+ (Professional working proficiency Plus) in the non-native language. Responsibilities include:
- Performing consecutive interpreting and document translations in both directions (JP<->EN)
- Facilitating communication between Japanese and local personnel across technical and non-technical topics
- Learning and applying relevant industry-specific terminology and familiarizing with production processes and equipment
- Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills
- Identifying cultural gaps and maintaining cultural sensitivity
- Maintaining a professional demeanor, impartiality, and situational awareness on all interactions
- Interpreting diverse content such as scheduling, administrative topics, and technical discussions
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Japanese-English translation and interpretation training or 1-2 years of professional interpreting experience
- Over 2 years interpreting experience, with exposure to manufacturing, production, mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, or maintenance fields
- Living, studying, or working professionally in both Japan and the U.S. (or another English-speaking country)
- Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing, TPS, or Six Sigma methodologies
- Over 2 years translation experience utilizing CAT tools, with exposure to technical fields such as automotive, industrial, logistics, IT, programming, chemistry, or materials sciences
Preferred Licenses and Certifications
- None specifically required, but interpreting or translation certificates or memberships in related associations are a plus
