About International Friendships, Inc. (IFI)

IFI is a growing, faith-based organization dedicated to extending life-changing hospitality and friendship to international college students in reverence for Jesus. Our services include airport pickups, holiday hosting, temporary housing, conversation partnerships, and social events and trips.

Expected Work Schedule

  • Full- or part-time, flexible hours
  • Occasional evenings and/or weekends for events and projects
  • Attendance at several conferences annually, including IFI Staff Retreats

Pay Structure

  • Requires development of a ministry partner team for prayer and financial support covering salary, benefits, and expenses
  • Training provided to help build your team of ministry partners
  • Salary range typically between $27,274 and $84,872 after support development, based on experience and other factors

Key Responsibilities

The Japanese Ministry Specialist’s main role is to assist IFI locations in serving Japanese international students practically, while training and equipping students and volunteers for ongoing ministry. This position is based in Columbus, OH, and can be performed remotely.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and maintaining financial and prayer partnerships aligned with ministry goals
  • Researching and understanding the needs of Japanese international students
  • Mentoring students through establishing relationships, leading Bible discussion groups, and participating in outreach activities with 3-4 students
  • Recruiting and training volunteers for campus ministry, creating programs to foster relationships with Japanese students
  • Connecting with student associations and community groups

  • Faithful, loyal, and dedicated to IFI’s mission of hospitality and friendship in reverence for Jesus
  • Well-organized, attentive to detail, capable of independent task completion
  • Having a shepherd’s heart for internationals, with a teachable, submissive spirit and spiritual maturity
  • Ability to work under stress and adapt flexibly
  • Committed to sharing faith in personal relationships and investing deeply in students’ lives
  • Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office and Google applications

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • At least three (3) years of living in Japan or serving Japanese international students/immigrants
