🚢 Torden is seeking a skilled and experienced Japanese / Linguist Interpreter to support a military training exercise at Joint Base Pearl Harbor (JBPH). This role requires proficiency in consecutive interpretation, military terminology, and flexibility to adapt to dynamic training scenarios.

Position Overview

Join us as a Japanese Linguist/Interpreter to assist Japanese Defense Force sailors during training exercises. The ideal candidate must be adaptable, willing to work long hours, and ready to engage in realistic, demanding scenarios to ensure effective communication and mission success.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consecutive interpretation between Japanese and English for military personnel.
• Support training exercises that may involve standing or sitting for extended periods.
• Adjust quickly to variable training environments and scenarios.
• Assist with realistic and immersive military training activities.
• Ensure accurate translation, transcription, and interpretation during sessions.

Requirements

• Pass an interpretation skills assessment for Japanese to English and vice versa, with a minimum score of 3 per ILR standards.
• Proven ability to deliver accurate translations, transcriptions, and interpretations.
• Capability to interpret on-demand for meetings and spontaneous conversations.
• Strong typing and computer skills.
• Thorough knowledge of military and naval terminology and vocabulary.
• Must be willing to commute to JBPH.
• Ability to think quickly and work effectively within a professional team environment.

Security and Eligibility Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory due to federal requirements.
• Department of Defense security clearance is recommended and highly valued.
• Willingness to undergo a background investigation.
• Must pass a counterintelligence (CI) screening interview.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability in high-pressure situations.
