Inside Higher Ed Is Hiring A Japanese Language Collection Student Assistant
Position Overview
This role involves supporting librarians in the East Asian Collection with daily operations, short-term, and long-term projects, primarily focusing on developing and promoting the Japanese Studies collection. 🌸
Job Description
- 30% - Assist with the acquisition of Japanese language materials.
- 30% - Update and maintain holdings information for Japanese language materials.
- 25% - Create and update online research guides for Japanese Studies.
- 10% - Assist with other tasks as needed.
- 5% - Provide support at the public services desk.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of Japanese language, as evidenced by application materials. 📚
- Ability to transcribe Japanese using modified Hepburn style romanization, as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English, as evidenced by application materials. 🗣️
- Experience with creating webpages, as evidenced by application materials.
- Graduate student in Educational Technology, Information Management, and/or Japanese Studies.
- Experience with video recording and editing to create short instructional films, as evidenced by application materials.
Position Requirements
During the semester, student hourly employees must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer, the requirements are:
- Be enrolled in at least 6 hours in the spring semester, OR
- Be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in at least 6 hours, OR
- Be enrolled in summer session, OR
- Be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. Note: Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments.
Employment Conditions
- Student employees are generally not eligible for remote work unless approved by unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold both an hourly/non-exempt role and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) simultaneously.
