🔹 Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Japanese to English translator/interpreter to facilitate communication between American and Japanese teams, support production-related activities, and assist with human resources functions. If you excel at quick thinking, cultural sensitivity, and technical interpretation, this role might be perfect for you!

🕗 Hours & Schedule

• Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

🎯 Key Job Responsibilities

• Facilitate communication by converting concepts accurately between Japanese and English.
• Interpret and translate for both American and Japanese teams.
• Support on the production floor with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams.
• Perform consecutive or whispered interpretation during video conferences, phone calls, and in-person meetings.
• Quickly assimilate speakers' words, including technical jargon and acronyms.
• Take detailed notes to aid memory and ensure accurate interpretation.
• Maintain high concentration for extended periods while listening and interpreting.
• Render spoken messages clearly, quickly, and accurately in the target language.
• Convey style and tone captured in the original language.
• Translate written content in Japanese or English as needed.
• Prepare and complete document translations.
• Assist with various other assignments to meet team and business needs.
• Act as Human Resources liaison with Japanese expatriate team members.
• Manage expatriate onboarding, including housing, education, banking, and general familiarization with the U.S.
• Handle general affairs such as VISA management and locating medical providers for physicals.
• Occasionally accompany family members to appointments or school-related activities.
• Support additional duties as assigned.

📝 Qualifications & Requirements

• Fluent in Japanese and English (speaking, understanding, reading, and writing).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Supplemental college or certification preferred but not mandatory; experience considered.
• Excellent quick comprehension and ability to analyze sentences on the fly.
• Adaptability to switch interpreting directions seamlessly.
• Exceptional memory and focus during extended interpretation sessions.
• Cultural sensitivity to appropriately manage politeness, deference, and confidentiality.
• Previous experience in manufacturing settings is a plus.
• Proficient in computer skills such as Excel, MS Office, and PowerPoint.
• Professional demeanor and appearance.
• Strict confidentiality adherence is mandatory.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long durations.
• Flexibility to assist on the production floor for meetings, equipment installation, or problem-solving.
