Position Details

  • Location: Torrance, CA (Hybrid)
  • Work Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (Flexible options available)
  • FSLA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Direct Hire

Overview

Our international organization is looking for a Japanese Bilingual HR Manager to oversee Human Resources functions for approximately 60 employees across multiple entities. This hands-on role involves managing daily HR operations, collaborating with an HR consultant, and continuously improving HR workflows. Your efforts will ensure compliance, streamline processes, and foster a positive, employee-friendly workplace environment. 🚀

The ideal candidate will possess robust experience in HR functions such as payroll, benefits administration, and policy development, along with advanced English proficiency. Japanese language skills are preferred to effectively support our diverse team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee HR operations across multiple entities
  • Administer payroll and employee benefits programs, including 401(k) and health insurance
  • Support the full recruitment cycle: screening, interviewing, onboarding
  • Guide management and employees on HR policies, employee relations, and compliance
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide HR insights for business decisions
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; update policies accordingly
  • Develop and update job descriptions aligned with FLSA classifications
  • Support performance management processes such as evaluations and feedback sessions
  • Manage employee relations, disciplinary actions, and terminations
  • Represent HR in management and executive meetings
  • Lead and implement HR projects and initiatives
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors (e.g., benefits providers, consultants)

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in HR, with hands-on payroll and benefits administration experience; supporting multiple entities is a plus
  • Language Skills: Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English (reading & writing required)
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and HRIS systems
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and compliance standards
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities
  • Capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
