Position Overview 🎓
We are looking for a dedicated Italian Language Teacher to instruct students in Italian language and culture. The ideal candidate will help students develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Italian, while enriching their understanding of global perspectives. You will create an engaging classroom environment that encourages participation, creativity, and growth, collaborating with colleagues to support student achievement.
Responsibilities 📋
- Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education
- Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines
- Manage classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an effective learning environment
- Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives, appropriate techniques, and differentiated strategies to meet all learners' needs
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge in Italian language and cultures
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences to discuss student progress
- Assess student learning continually and identify areas for intervention if needed
- Keep parents informed through interim reports, report cards, and conferences
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learners
- Design and implement assessments to evaluate progress and inform instruction
- Create a positive, open communication environment in the classroom
- Promote ethical behavior and positive citizenship among students
- Participate in selecting textbooks and instructional materials
- Build and maintain professional relationships with staff, students, and families
- Engage in ongoing professional development through seminars, workshops, and collaboration
- Apply effective teaching methods suitable for secondary world language instruction
Knowledge & Skills 🔍
- Experience working with adolescent learners in a diverse school setting
- Ability to foster a culturally responsive, student-centered classroom
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Active listening and collaborative abilities
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Prior teaching experience preferred
Qualifications ✅
- Active 020 World Language – Italian Certification issued by the Connecticut State Department of Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or Italian; Master’s degree preferred
- Proven success in multicultural or urban educational environments
- Experience with team teaching and collaboration
- Excellent interpersonal and classroom management skills
- Other appropriate qualifications as determined by the Superintendent or Danbury Board of Education
Salary & Additional Information 💼
Salary and wages are determined in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education, available on our website.
