Salary & Compensation
- Salary Range Schedule A: $46,785.80 to $88,550.66
- Salary Range Schedule B: $46,785.80 to $79,272.75
Starting salary generally begins at the minimum of the salary range. For current employees, promotions or advancements include a 5% increase of the base salary, not exceeding the maximum range. Employees hired prior to August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule A, while those hired on or after are Schedule B. The Judiciary offers strong opportunities for career growth.
Job Description
The Middlesex Vicinage seeks a dependable, detail-oriented Investigator to perform comprehensive investigatory work supporting various court functions. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting investigations and gathering relevant case facts
- Performing initial case work-up and data entry
- Monitoring case flow and case outcomes
- Explaining judiciary policies to clients and stakeholders
- Investigating personal and criminal histories of clients
- Preparing investigative reports and documenting case activities
- Reviewing court documents for compliance
- Scheduling meetings, interviews, and court preparations
- Providing information and cross-training colleagues
- Assisting judges, attorneys, and community organizations
Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the mission of the Judiciary.
Remote Work and Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for up to 2 days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings. To participate, candidates must:
- Install a multifactor authentication app on their device
- Have high-speed internet access at home
Example Duties
- Manage case intake and flow, including case status updates
- Analyze case histories to enforce court orders
- Explain policies to clients and identify their case management needs
- Ensure timely entry and disposition of court orders and proceedings
- Conduct client interviews and prepare cases for hearings
- Build relationships with external organizations
- Review court documents for compliance with rules
- Document case activities thoroughly through case notes
- Advise management and judges on case issues
- Perform cross-training and other assigned duties
Regular, predictable physical presence at the worksite is essential.
Qualifications
- At least two years of paraprofessional experience in casework involving fact collection, socioeconomic data, record examination, interviews, and investigative reports
- Substitution option: 30 semester credits = 1 year of experience
- This position is open to current Judiciary employees with the title of Investigator or Investigator Bilingual
- Applicants for bilingual roles must pass the New Jersey Civil Service Commission Bilingual Communicative Ability Test (BICAT) or demonstrate proficiency
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license in New Jersey if vehicle operation is necessary
- US citizenship is not required; must be authorized to work in the US
- A thorough background check and fingerprinting are mandatory for new hires
- In accordance with the New Jersey First Act, new hires within one year must establish principal residence in New Jersey
