The successful candidate will provide professional interpretation and translation services for legal settings, both in-person and remotely.
Key Responsibilities 📝
- Provide impartial, confidential interpretation for legal services, including consecutive and occasional simultaneous interpretation.
- Adapt to regional dialects and select appropriate interpretation modes.
- Deliver services in-person, via telephone, videoconference, or virtual platforms.
- Travel to interpretation sites as needed (separate from primary worksite).
- Respect and understand the cultural, linguistic, and belief systems of LEP clients.
- Accurately interpret, clarify, and seek clarification to ensure mutual understanding.
- Identify and explain cultural differences or sensitivities relevant to the target language.
- Encourage direct communication between clients and providers.
- Maintain professionalism, diffuse conflicts, and uphold confidentiality.
- Serve as a cultural and linguistic resource to clients and case managers.
- Practice active listening, avoid stereotypes, and review/transcribe audio materials accurately when required.
- Utilize reference materials and participate in training sessions and assessments.
Qualifications 🎓
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 2-5 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Language Proficiency: Pass proficiency tests in one or more target languages listed above.
- English Skills: Pass an English proficiency test (reading, writing, speaking).
- Citizenship: U.S. citizen or Green Card holder.
- Technology: Proficiency in MS Office, Teams, Zoom, and other relevant software.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding of geopolitical and cultural elements relevant to translations.
- Communication Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written skills.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle materials discreetly and securely.
- Work Environment: Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Home Office Requirements (Remote):
- Desktop or Laptop (no Chromebooks or iPads)
- High-speed internet
- Quiet, private workspace for confidentiality
Desired Skills 🌟
- Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to summarize complex concepts accurately.
- Certification from recognized organizations (e.g., ATA, FBI, AIIC, State Department) is a plus.
Schedule & Location 🗓️
Employment Type: Full-time, part-time, or on-call opportunities.
Work Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (flexible based on client needs; occasional weekends and overtime possible).
Shifts: Available 24/7 coverage including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Location: Fully remote with some onsite support upon request.
We are seeking interpreters and translators nationwide, especially in the following states and territories:
- Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Chicago, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Philippines, Utah, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, among others.
Having reliable transportation or the ability to commute to client sites is preferred.
