Help facilitate meaningful communication for non-English speaking missionaries, playing a vital role in their spiritual journey and the spread of the gospel.

Job Description

This position is essential in supporting missionaries by interpreting and translating to help them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. Interpreters are entry-level, individual contributors responsible for providing interpretation services at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah. They may also support translation projects and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

• Reporting to: Supervisor or trainer within the training department
• Interpreting for over 25+ meetings during the missionaries' stay at the MTC
• Translating for assigned projects as directed by the manager
• Participating in team training meetings
• Fostering an environment of increased harmony, trust, and goodwill within the department and the MTC 🤝
• Performing additional duties as assigned by the Interpretation Coordinator
• Assisting with temporary tasks such as Mission Leadership Seminar support

Qualifications

Required

• At least 1 year of experience speaking a second language
• Native or near-native proficiency in English and the second language, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and social nuances
• Strong interpretation skills
• High understanding of gospel terminology and usage, including Preach My Gospel
• Physical ability to sit long periods and operate monitors/equipment as needed

Preferred

• 1 year of experience as an interpreter or translator
• Advanced translation skills
