Role Overview

As an on-call interpreter, you will assist students, teachers, and parents during peak times, special projects, or when covering absences. Flexibility is key—travel to school sites is required to facilitate communication effectively. 🏫

Skills & Qualifications ✅

• Communication: Ability to professionally, concisely, and accurately communicate across cultures in both verbal and written English and Punjabi.
• Fluency: Native-level proficiency in English and Punjabi is essential.
• Technological Proficiency: Experienced with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication tools.
• Time Management: Capable of maintaining schedules and completing tasks on time.
• Policy Adherence: Ability to follow protocols established by the agency.
• Experience: Preferred three years of professional language service experience.

What You Will Do 🎯

• Attend in-person and/or remote meetings to facilitate communication between parents, students, and school staff in English and Punjabi.
• Interpret clearly and accurately, capturing tone and nuance.
• Navigate terms, idioms, and slang that may not translate directly between languages.
• Assist with written and oral communication as needed.

Key Responsibilities 📋

• Interpret and translate conversations and documentation faithfully, ensuring original meaning and tone are preserved.
• Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and educational staff.
• Manage your schedule and assignments efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Connect with clients virtually, over the phone, and in person, ensuring timely communication and punctual attendance at meetings.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to expand educational vocabulary and skills.

Qualifications & Requirements 📝

• Proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading English and Punjabi.
• Experience interpreting and translating in both languages.
• Willingness and ability to travel within NYC school districts.
• Capability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and necessary equipment.
• Availability Monday through Friday to accept assignments.
