About the Role

Language Service Agency is seeking dependable and experienced on-call interpreters fluent in English and Punjabi. The position involves providing critical language assistance during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences. It offers both on-site and remote work options in various NYC school districts, enabling you to utilize your language skills and work flexibly according to your availability.

As an interpreter, you will: travel to school sites and assist students, teachers, and parents, ensuring clear and accurate communication.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Communication: Ability to professionally, concisely, and accurately communicate across cultures in both verbal and written English and Punjabi.
• Fluency: Native-level proficiency in English and Punjabi is required.
• Technological Proficiency: Experience with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication tools.
• Time Management: Ability to adhere to schedules and complete tasks on time.
• Policies & Procedures: Capacity to follow guidelines set by the language service agency.
• Experience: Three years of professional language service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attend in-person or remote meetings between parents, students, and school staff, facilitating spoken language interpretation in English and Punjabi.
• Interpret clearly and accurately, conveying tone and nuance, understanding that some idioms and slang may not translate directly.
• Support written and oral communication needs of the company as required.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and educators.
• Manage time effectively to complete assignments within expected timeframes.
• Engage virtually, over the phone, and in person, ensuring prompt and clear communication.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to expand educational vocabulary and skills.

Qualifications

• Fluency in speaking, writing, and reading both English and Punjabi.
• Experience in interpreting and translating between English and Punjabi.
• Willingness and ability to travel to NYC school districts for onsite appointments.
• Capability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and necessary equipment.
• Availability Monday through Friday to accept assignments.
