About the Role
Language Service Agency is seeking dependable and experienced on-call interpreters fluent in English and Japanese. This role involves providing critical language support during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences. The position is primarily on-site, with remote options, in various school settings throughout Long Island school districts. You will assist students, teachers, and parents, helping bridge communication gaps and supporting a positive educational environment.
What You Need to Succeed
- Communication 🗣️: Ability to professionally, concisely, and accurately communicate across cultures in both verbal and written forms in English and Japanese.
- Fluency 🎯: Native-level proficiency in English and Japanese.
- Technological Skills 💻: Proficiency with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication platforms.
- Time Management ⏱️: Ability to maintain schedules and complete tasks efficiently and on time.
- Adherence to Policies 📋: Follow policies and procedures set by the agency.
- Experience 🌟: A minimum of three years of professional language services experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend in-person and/or remote meetings with parents, students, and school staff to facilitate clear communication in English and Japanese.
- Interpret accurately, conveying the tone and nuance of the original speaker.
- Recognize that some concepts, idioms, and slang may not translate exactly between languages.
- Assist with written and oral communication as needed, ensuring clarity and professionalism.
Additional Responsibilities
- Interpret and translate conversations and written documents while conveying original tone and intent.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and school personnel.
- Manage your schedule and assignments effectively to meet deadlines.
- Connect with clients virtually, by phone, or in person, ensuring timely communication and prompt attendance at meetings.
- Continuously expand educational vocabulary and participate in professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Fluent in speaking, writing, and reading in English and Japanese.
- Experience interpreting and translating in both languages.
- Ability to travel to school sites within Long Island School Districts.
- Capability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and the necessary equipment.
- Availability for assignments Monday through Friday.
