About the Role

Language Service Agency is seeking dependable and experienced interpreters fluent in English and Punjabi. In this on-site and remote position, you'll provide vital language support during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences across various NYC school districts. This role offers the chance to utilize your language skills, work flexibly, and positively impact students, teachers, and parents.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend in-person and/or remote meetings to facilitate communication between parents, students, and school staff in both English and Punjabi.
• Interpret clearly and accurately, conveying the tone and intent of original speech.
• Navigate idioms, slang, and cultural nuances that may not directly translate.
• Assist with written and oral communication as needed.
• Build strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and educators.
• Manage schedules effectively to ensure timely completion of assignments.
• Engage with clients via virtual platforms, phone calls, and in person, ensuring prompt communication and punctual attendance at meetings.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to expand educational vocabulary and interpretative skills.

Qualifications & Skills

• Fluency in: Speaking, reading, and writing fluently in English and Punjabi.
• Experience: At least three years in interpreting and translating roles preferred.
• Technological skills: Proficiency with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication tools.
• Travel: Ability to travel to various school sites within NYC.
• Remote readiness: Strong Wi-Fi connection and required equipment for remote work.
• Availability: Monday through Friday scheduling flexibility.
