About the Role

As an on-call interpreter, you will deliver essential language services during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences. This position offers both on-site and remote opportunities, working throughout various NYC school districts to assist students, teachers, and parents. Key Skills & Qualifications ✅

• Communication: Ability to professionally, concisely, and accurately communicate across cultures in both verbal and written English and Punjabi.
• Fluency: Native-level proficiency in English and Punjabi is required.
• Technological Proficiency: Comfortable with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication platforms.
• Time Management: Capable of maintaining schedules and completing tasks on time.
• Policy Adherence: Ability to follow the policies and procedures of the agency.
• Experience: At least three years of professional language service experience preferred.

What You Will Do 📝

• Attend in-person or remote meetings with parents, students, and school staff to facilitate clear communication in English and Punjabi.
• Interpret accurately while conveying tone and intent, understanding idioms, slang, and cultural nuances.
• Assist with both written and oral communication as needed to facilitate understanding.

Responsibilities & Expectations

• Interpret and translate conversations and documentation accurately, preserving original tone and intent.
• Build and nurture strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and staff.
• Manage your time and assignments effectively to meet deadlines.
• Communicate promptly with clients via virtual meetings, phone calls, and in person, ensuring timely updates and attendance.
• Continuously expand your educational vocabulary and participate in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications 🎓

• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Punjabi.
• Proven experience interpreting and translating in both languages.
• Ability to travel within NYC school districts for client appointments.
• Reliable remote working setup with strong Wi-Fi and required equipment.
• Availability to accept assignments Monday through Friday.
