Role Overview

As an On-Call Interpreter, you will:

• Provide crucial language assistance during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences
• Work in school settings across NYC districts, travelling to various sites as needed
• Support communication between students, parents, and school staff to ensure understanding

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Communication 💬: Professionally, concisely, and accurately facilitate cross-cultural conversations in both verbal and written English and Punjabi
• Fluency 🎯: Native-level proficiency in both languages
• Technological Proficiency 💻: Experience with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote platforms
• Time Management ⏰: Ability to adhere to schedules and complete tasks promptly
• Knowledge of policies and procedures established by the agency
• ≥ 3 years of professional experience in language services (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Interpret and translate conversations and written documents, ensuring tone and intent are preserved
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including parents, students, and staff
• Manage your schedule effectively to meet deadlines
• Participate in virtual and in-person meetings, ensuring clear communication
• Recognize and navigate idioms, slang, and cultural nuances between languages
• Assist with both written and oral communication tasks as needed
• Continuously enhance your educational and interpretation vocabulary through professional development

Qualifications

• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Punjabi
• Experience in interpreting and translating in both languages
• Willingness and ability to travel to NYC school sites
• Capability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and equipment
• Available to accept assignments Monday through Friday
