About the Role

As an On-Call Interpreter, you will provide crucial language support during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences. The position is flexible, with both on-site and remote options in NYC schools, requiring travel to various school sites to assist students, teachers, and parents.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Communication: Ability to professionally, concisely, and accurately communicate across cultures in both verbal and written English and Punjabi.
• Fluency: Native-level proficiency in both English and Punjabi.
• Technological Proficiency: Experience with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication tools.
• Time Management: Effectively manage your schedule and complete tasks within deadlines.
• Adherence to Policies: Follow the guidelines and procedures outlined by the agency.
• Professional Experience: A minimum of three years providing language services is preferred.

What Interpreters Will Do

• Attend in person and/or virtual meetings between parents, students, and school staff to facilitate clear communication in English and Punjabi.
• Interpret speech accurately, conveying tone and nuances of the original speaker.
• Navigate idioms, slang, and concepts that may not translate directly between languages.
• Assist with both written and oral communication tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret and translate conversations and documents, maintaining original intent and tone.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including parents and school personnel.
• Manage time effectively to meet all commitments and deadlines.
• Participate in virtual, phone, and in-person meetings, ensuring timely communication and punctuality.
• Continuously expand educational vocabulary and engage in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Punjabi.
• Experience in interpreting and translating between English and Punjabi.
• Willingness and ability to travel to NYC school districts for onsite assignments.
• Capability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and necessary equipment.
• Availability to accept assignments Monday through Friday.
