About the Role

Language Service Agency is seeking reliable and experienced interpreters fluent in English and Punjabi. This on-site and remote position involves providing essential language support during peak times, special projects, or to cover absences within NYC school districts. You'll assist students, teachers, and parents, helping bridge communication gaps and fostering understanding. 🏫

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Communication 🗣️: Professionally, concisely, and accurately convey messages across cultures in both verbal and written English and Punjabi.
• Fluency 🎯: Native-level proficiency in English and Punjabi is required.
• Technological Proficiency 💻: Comfortable using Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication tools.
• Time Management ⏰: Effectively prioritize tasks and adhere to schedules.
• Policy Compliance 📋: Follow all policies and procedures outlined by the agency.
• Experience ⭐: Preferably with three or more years in professional language services.

Primary Responsibilities

• Facilitate Communication 🗨️: Attend in-person or remote meetings to interpret spoken language between parents, students, and school staff, ensuring clarity and understanding.
• Accurate Interpretation 📝: Convey the tone and meaning of original speech, acknowledging idioms and slang that may not translate directly.
• Assist with Communication ✉️: Support written and oral correspondence as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

• Translate & Interpret 🗣️✍️: Handle conversations and documentation with accuracy and sensitivity.
• Relationship Building 🤝: Develop strong rapport with clients, including parents, students, and school staff.
• Time & Task Management 📅: Manage schedules efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Virtual & In-Person Support 📱🏫: Participate in meetings virtually, over the phone, or onsite, ensuring prompt communication.
• Professional Growth 📚: Expand educational vocabulary and engage in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Punjabi.
• Proven experience in interpreting and translating between English and Punjabi.
• Willingness and ability to travel to NYC school sites.
• Capability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and necessary equipment.
• Availability Monday through Friday for assignments.
