About the Role

Language Service Agency is seeking dependable and experienced interpreters fluent in English and Punjabi. In this on-site and remote position, you'll provide vital language support during peak times, special projects, or to cover staff absences across NYC school districts. This is an excellent opportunity to leverage your language skills, help diverse communities, and work with a flexible schedule that adapts to your availability. You will assist students, teachers, and parents by bridging communication gaps in school settings.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Communication 🗣️: Professionally, concisely, and accurately convey messages across cultures in both verbal and written English and Punjabi.
• Fluency 🗣️: Native-level proficiency in English and Punjabi is required.
• Technological Skills 💻: Proficiency with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and other remote communication platforms.
• Time Management ⏰: Effectively manage schedules and complete tasks within deadlines.
• Policy Compliance 📋: Follow all policies and procedures outlined by the agency.
• Experience 🏆: Minimum of three years professional experience providing language services preferred.

Interpreter Responsibilities

• Participate in in-person and/or remote meetings to facilitate communication between parents, students, and school staff in both English and Punjabi.
• Interpret clearly and accurately, conveying tone, meaning, and intent.
• Recognize that some idioms, slang, and cultural concepts may not translate directly.
• Assist with written and oral communication as needed for the company.

Additional Responsibilities

• Accurately interpret conversations and document translations, maintaining original tone and intent.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, including families and school personnel.
• Manage time, tasks, and schedules to meet deadlines efficiently.
• Engage with clients virtually, via phone, and in person, ensuring timely and professional communication.
• Continuously expand educational vocabulary and participate in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English and Punjabi.
• Experience in interpreting and translating within these languages.
• Willingness to travel to various NYC school district locations.
• Ability to work remotely with reliable Wi-Fi and necessary equipment.
• Available to accept assignments Monday through Friday.
