Position Overview
As a Team Lead, you'll oversee the production of news and feature content, manage team members, and contribute to a variety of multimedia projects for broadcasts, web, and social media. Your role involves leadership, content creation, technical execution, and strategic input to ensure high-quality storytelling in Mandarin.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Coordination
- Assign work and coach team members
- Report on team performance to management
- Facilitate teamwork and support colleagues as needed
- Content Creation & Production
- Write, produce, and develop news and feature stories for broadcast, web, and social media
- Serve as a line producer during programs, managing timing and story order
- Voice material during broadcasts, including content prepared by others
- Contribute to production elements, including editing taped material
- Editing & Content Management
- Edit and approve copy and content prepared by others
- Translate content between English and Mandarin as assigned
- Adapt and version content for various audiences and platforms
- Technical & Creative Contributions
- Operate broadcasting and recording equipment
- Serve as a videographer or program host as assigned
- Contribute to show development and special programming
- Make suggestions for policy and workflow improvements
- Additional Duties
- Log data and manage digital assets
- Perform data entry and related functions
- Stay aligned with VOA standards for quality and deadlines
- Support the creation of innovative multimedia content and strategies
Qualifications & Skills
- Fluency in Mandarin (spoken and written) and proficient in English
- Deep understanding of the target region and cultural context
- Strong journalism, storytelling, and editing skills
- Formal education or specialized knowledge in relevant fields
- Experience in broadcasting, web content, and social media
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Technical proficiency with broadcasting equipment and digital asset management systems
