📋 Position Description

The Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time Instructor of Hebrew position, starting August 2026. We are looking for a dynamic educator with proven excellence in teaching Modern Hebrew as a world language. The successful candidate will also have the credentials and interest to teach interdisciplinary courses that enhance our liberal arts offerings.

The College's two-year language requirement can be fulfilled with Hebrew coursework, which is also integral to the Jewish Studies major and minor, as well as Middle Eastern and Islamic World Studies programs. During the sixth year, the instructor will be reviewed for promotion to Senior Instructor. The position offers benefits, and the salary is competitive.

🎓 Qualifications

  • Native or near-native command of Hebrew
  • Strong proficiency in English
  • Master’s degree in Hebrew or related pedagogical field (PhD preferred)
  • At least 2 years college-level teaching experience (preferred)
  • Ability to contribute to another program in LCWA is desirable

📝 Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Hebrew
  • Develop courses to expand program offerings
  • Maintain a teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester, including at least two Hebrew courses each term
