Position Summary

The Department of Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature at Florida Atlantic University is seeking applications for an Instructor in Hebrew. The successful candidate will teach all levels of Hebrew, with particular focus on Beginning and Intermediate courses. Additionally, there may be opportunities to teach Hebrew and Jewish literatures in translation, Business Hebrew, or related coursework based on the candidate’s qualifications.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to teach a second language (such as Arabic, Spanish, French, or Italian), although this is not a requirement. As this role supports Jewish Studies, the instructor may also be involved in program development through activities such as organizing talks, film series, or educational events for university members and the surrounding community.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Report to a Chair or appropriate university administrator
  • Teach courses, participate in service activities, and undertake related administrative tasks
  • Support program initiatives as needed
  • Represent the university on committees at the department, college, or university level

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess:

  • At least a Master’s degree
  • Completed a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Hebrew or a closely related field by the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications

  • An M.A. or Ph.D. in Hebrew (strongly preferred)
  • Experience teaching Hebrew at the university level
  • Proficiency with educational technology and online teaching tools
  • Experience developing syllabi and course programs
