Role Summary
As our HR Manager, you will own the operational and administrative foundation of our people function. Your responsibilities include managing payroll, benefits, compliance, and contractor management, while establishing policies, procedures, and reporting structures that support a vibrant, inclusive culture. This hands-on role is ideal for someone experienced in smaller, growing companies who understands the importance of balancing structure, care, and culture. A deep knowledge of California labor law, independence, and alignment with our core values of generosity, integrity, and collaboration are essential.
Key Responsibilities
HR Operations & Compliance
- Manage payroll administration and coordination for full-time employees and contractors
- Oversee benefits programs, including healthcare plans and 401(k) enrollments
- Ensure compliance with California labor laws and employment regulations
- Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, and HR documentation
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes for staff and contractors
- Serve as the primary contact for HR systems, vendors, and external partners
Policies, Procedures & People Infrastructure
- Develop, implement, and update HR policies suitable for a growing organization
- Ensure policies are clear, accessible, and reflect Flamingo Estate’s culture
- Support leadership in creating fair, consistent people practices
- Maintain the employee handbook and internal documentation as the company evolves
Employee Relations & Reporting
- Act as a trusted resource for employees regarding HR questions, concerns, and reporting
- Manage sensitive employee matters with professionalism, confidentiality, and care
- Support performance management processes, documentation, and best practices
- Implement processes for issue escalation, investigation, and resolution
People Support & Growth
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational development
- Assist with compensation strategies, role leveling, and internal promotions
- Coordinate training sessions, compliance-related education, and HR initiatives
- Help foster a supportive, inclusive, and values-driven workplace culture
Qualifications & Experience
- Bilingual: Spanish and English
- 5+ years of HR experience, preferably in small to mid-sized companies (40–100 employees)
- Extensive knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance standards
- Experience managing payroll, benefits, 401(k), and employee classification
- Hands-on experience with developing or refining HR policies, procedures, and infrastructure
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive matters thoughtfully
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with leadership
- Experience in creative, consumer, or lifestyle-driven environments is a bonus
