Supporting the Leased Housing Department, the Housing Assistant plays a vital role under the guidance of the Housing Manager, ensuring smooth processing of lease cases and excellent tenant communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Lease Renewals & Recertifications: Complete annual and interim reviews, ensuring accuracy in calculations and rent reasonableness determinations.
- Verify Income & Household Documentation: Conduct income and employment verifications, investigate and verify household documents submission.
- Tenant Communication: Inform tenants about housing regulations, handle termination cases for non-recertification, and respond efficiently to information requests, emails, and correspondence.
- Operational Reporting & Improvements: Report system issues and suggest enhancements to optimize operations.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Successful candidates will meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, or an associate degree/60 semester credits plus one year housing management experience, or a high school diploma with three years of relevant full-time experience.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, demonstrated through passing an oral proficiency test.
- Foreign Language: Proficiency in a language required by NYC’s Housing Authority is essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Oracle Siebel applications.
- Other: Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Minimum Qualifications
- Degree Requirements: Bachelor's degree, associate degree plus experience, or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
- Experience: Housing management experience in apartments with 150+ units preferred.
Note on Employment Status
This position may be offered on a provisional basis per NYS Civil Service Law Section 65, with no permanent tenure guaranteed. Also, candidates should indicate interest in the 55-a Program for persons with disabilities.
