Natividad is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to fill a permanent Hospital Communications Operator position within our Telecommunications Department. This vital role ensures seamless communication during routine operations and emergencies in our healthcare facility.

About the Role
As a Hospital Communications Operator, you will:
- Operate electronic and computerized telephone consoles to manage incoming and outgoing calls.
- Handle both routine and emergency communications effectively.
- Dispatch information via telephone, radio, and pager systems.
- Perform clerical duties and assist in maintaining communication systems.
Examples of Key Duties
- Operate an electronic telephone console, respond to emergency calls, and assist the public.
- Respond swiftly to hospital emergencies such as fire alarms, code blues, and abductions, following established protocols.
- Page and call physicians and hospital personnel as needed, adhering to protocols.
- Channel calls, provide patient room numbers, and share direct phone numbers.
- Use speed dialing, beepers, and voice paging to expedite communications.
- Manage assignments of cell phones and pagers, including programming and monitoring.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, maintain logs, and coordinate with vendors.
- Keep telephone directories current and accurate.
- Order office supplies and maintain office equipment.
- Train new staff on communication systems and emergency procedures.
- Provide critical communication support during emergencies.
- Collaborate with hospital staff and supervisors to improve processes.
- May be assigned as a Disaster Worker when needed.
Qualifications & Experience
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Working Knowledge of:
- Operation of a multi-line switchboard
- Modern office procedures
- Hospital functions and emergency protocols
- Use and care of computer, cellular, pager, and radio equipment
- MSWord, Excel, Outlook software
- Thorough Knowledge of:
- Multi-line switchboard operation
- Hospital emergency functions
- Proper handling of communication equipment
- Skills and Abilities to:
- Work effectively in a busy, noisy environment
- Type accurately and efficiently
- Remain calm under pressure during emergencies
- Communicate clearly in English with a friendly tone
- Take and transmit precise directions and information
- Perform clerical tasks quickly and accurately
- Follow oral and written instructions
- Sit at a console for extended periods
- Multi-task efficiently
- Build cooperative relationships with colleagues and clients
Experience & Education Requirements
Any combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating the above knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. For example:
- Experience: Two (2) years in customer service, preferably in healthcare
- Additional: One (1) year of switchboard experience

- All incumbents must pass a pre-employment physical/medical exam.
- A thorough background check, including a Department of Justice fingerprint review, will be conducted.
- Proficiency in oral and written Spanish is required.
- Valid driver's license or suitable transportation is necessary for roles involving county travel.
