The HL7 Integration Engineer (IE) for the Canadian region oversees all technical aspects of Synapse product HL7 integration, from installation, configuration, validation, to product go-live, supporting all Synapse MI products. This role requires expert knowledge in medical informatics, IT infrastructure, medical imaging, and clinical workflows. Excellent communication skills are essential to ensure customer satisfaction and effective collaboration with internal teams and clients.
Adaptability in a dynamic multi-vendor environment and keeping current with healthcare and IT trends, regulations, and hardware/software products are crucial. The role involves interaction with technical support, field service, customers, vendors, and internal administrative groups, fostering relationships and maintaining documentation.

Position: Bilingual HL7 Integration Engineer (French & English)
Location: Remote (US-based)
🔧 Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the MI Project Management team to deliver high-quality Synapse solutions.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for HL7 implementation across Synapse product lines.
- Manage enterprise-level projects such as data migrations, interface integration, and data conversions.
- Integrate Synapse MI with third-party healthcare information systems (e.g., EMR, PACS, RIS, HIS, VNA).
- Follow internal communication protocols using designated tools.
- Develop and maintain extensive technical documentation, including customer-specific solutions and best practices.
- Stay updated on new Synapse and third-party product releases, participating in SME programs.
- Engage in internal activities, such as presenting at team meetings and collaborating across teams.
- Mentor peers and actively participate in knowledge transfer initiatives.
- Work independently as a lead technical resource, ensuring high customer satisfaction.
- Adhere to quality, regulatory, and compliance standards, including FDA, ISO 13485, and others.
🎓 Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in designing, implementing, and documenting complex technical projects.
- Deep understanding of IT in clinical environments, especially radiology, cardiology, RIS, and VNA services.
- Proficiency with HL7 v2, DICOM, FHIR, and IHE profiles.
- Experience with HL7 integration (4-5 years) in hospital settings.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.
- Knowledge of Canadian health interfacing requirements and diagnostic imaging exchange protocols.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Lua, JavaScript, Python) for data transformation.
- Hands-on experience with interface engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody).
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate within matrix teams.
- Understanding of healthcare network technologies (TCP/IP, MS Windows, VMWare).
- Knowledge of radiology, cardiology, and EMR workflows.
- Fluency in both English and French (spoken and written) is strongly preferred.
💪 Physical & Travel Requirements
- Sitting 75-100%, using hands for manipulation 100%, standing, talking, and hearing 75%.
- Lifting up to 10 lbs occasionally.
- Occasional travel (~25%) based on business needs.
