Position Overview
The HL7 Integration Engineer (IE) for the Canadian region is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of Synapse product HL7 integration, from installation and configuration to validation and go-live across all Synapse MI products. This role requires expert knowledge in medical informatics, IT infrastructure, medical imaging, and clinical workflow, combined with excellent communication skills to ensure industry-leading customer satisfaction. The candidate must excel in dynamic multi-vendor environments and stay current with healthcare and IT trends.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the MI Project Management team to deliver high-quality Synapse solutions.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for HL7 implementation projects across Synapse product lines.
- Lead enterprise-level custom projects including data migrations, interface integrations, and data conversions.
- Integrate Synapse MI products with third-party healthcare information systems such as EMR, PACS, CVIS, RIS, HIS, and VNA.
- Follow internal project communication protocols using designated tools.
- Develop extensive documentation including solution designs tailored to customers and best practices.
- Acquire and learn new Synapse and third-party products, especially Canadian Healthcare Imaging and Hospital EMR systems.
- Participate in SME programs and internal knowledge sharing activities.
- Mentor and train peers, actively contributing to team knowledge transfer.
- Work independently, managing projects with minimal supervision while ensuring high customer satisfaction.
- Maintain compliance with quality and regulatory standards, including FDA, ISO 13485, and other applicable laws.
Qualifications
- Expert understanding of IT in clinical environments, especially radiology, cardiology, RIS, Synchronicity, and VNA services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related fields (or equivalent experience). AA with relevant industry experience is also acceptable.
- Deep knowledge of HL7 and DICOM standards, including HL7 v2 (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT, MDM), FHIR, and IHE profiles.
- Experience with EMR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athena, Meditech, and others.
- Proficiency with databases (SQL, Oracle) and scripting languages (Lua, JavaScript, Python, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with interface engines such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Iguana, Cloverleaf, or Ensemble.
- Experience working with Canadian Public Health Records and Diagnostic Imagery Exchange Repositories.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, project management, and organizational skills.
- Bilingual in English and French is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of healthcare workflows, PACS, and clinical information systems.
- Familiarity with network technologies, including TCP/IP, MS Windows, Message Queuing, and VPNs.
- Experience in healthcare or hospital environments is required.
Physical and Travel Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods (75-100%), use hands for manipulation (up to 100%), and stand/talk/listen (75%).
- Lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds (20%).
- Close vision capabilities at 20 inches or less.
- Occasional travel up to 25% based on business needs.
Salary and Benefits
Compensation ranges from $89,646.00 to $116,700.20 depending on experience, plus a 10% bonus opportunity. Benefits include:
