Position Overview
The HL7 Integration Engineer (IE) for the Canadian region oversees all technical aspects of Synapse product HL7 integration, from installation, configuration, and validation phases through to product go-live for all Synapse MI products. This role requires expertise in medical informatics, IT infrastructure design, the medical imaging industry, and clinical workflow, coupled with excellent communication skills to ensure industry-leading customer satisfaction. The successful candidate must thrive in highly dynamic multi-vendor environments and stay current with healthcare and IT trends.
Interaction with technical support, field service, end users, vendors, and internal teams is essential to maintain effective communication, develop relationships, and document processes comprehensively.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the MI Project Management (PM) team to deliver high-quality Synapse solutions.
- Serve as the primary technical resource for HL7 implementation projects across Synapse product lines.
- Perform enterprise-level projects such as data migrations, interfaces, and data conversions.
- Integrate Synapse MI products with third-party healthcare systems like EMR, PACS, CVIS, RIS, HIS, VNA, and dictation systems.
- Follow internal communication guidelines and maintain extensive documentation, including solution designs and best practices.
- Stay updated on new Synapse and third-party products, especially in Canadian healthcare imaging and hospital settings.
- Participate as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and contribute to internal initiatives.
- Mentor peers and participate in knowledge transfer.
- Work independently as the lead technical resource on projects.
- Ensure high customer satisfaction and compliance with quality and regulatory standards like FDA and ISO 13485.
- Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards for medical devices.
Qualifications
- Technical professional with experience in designing, implementing, and documenting complex projects.
- Expert knowledge of clinical IT environments, especially radiology, cardiology, RIS, Synchronicity, and VNA services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or related fields (or equivalent experience).
- 4–5 years of HL7 integration experience in hospital settings.
- Proficiency in HL7 v2 (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT, MDM), DICOM, FHIR, IHE profiles.
- Experience with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athena, Meditech, and related interfacing standards.
- Knowledge of Canadian health records and image exchange protocols.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like Lua, JavaScript, Python plus interface engines (e.g., Rhapsody, Mirth Connect).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in English and French.
- Strong problem-solving and project management abilities.
- Experience with healthcare workflows, PACS, clinical information systems, and network technologies.
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and collaborate effectively in matrix environments.
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Sit for 75–100% of the workday; use hands for manipulation up to 100%; stand, talk, and hear for 75%.
- Lift up to 10 pounds as needed (~20%).
- Close vision ability at 20 inches or less.
- Limited travel (~25%) may be required.
Salary & Benefits
Salary ranges from $89,646.00 to $116,700.20 depending on experience, plus a 10% bonus opportunity.
