Position Overview

The HL7 Integration Engineer (IE) for the Canadian region is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of Synapse product HL7 integration, from installation, configuration, validation, to go-live, across all Synapse MI products. This role requires expert knowledge in medical informatics, IT infrastructure, medical imaging industry, and clinical workflows, coupled with excellent communication skills to ensure customer satisfaction. The ability to work effectively in a dynamic multi-vendor environment and stay current with healthcare and IT trends is essential.

Job Description

BILINGUAL: MUST SPEAK AND WRITE FLUENT FRENCH 🇫🇷

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with MI Project Management teams to deliver high-quality Synapse solutions.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for HL7 implementation projects across Synapse products.
  • Lead enterprise-level custom projects including:
    • Data migrations
    • Interface integration and data conversion
    • Integrating Synapse MI with third-party healthcare systems (EMR, PACS, RIS, HIS, VNA, etc.)
  • Follow internal communication guidelines, utilizing provided tools for project updates.
  • Develop extensive documentation, including customer-specific solutions and best practices.
  • Continuously learn new Synapse and third-party products, participating in SME programs.
  • Engage in non-project activities such as team presentations and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Mentor and train peers, promoting knowledge sharing.
  • Work independently as the lead technical resource for projects.
  • Ensure delivery of high customer satisfaction levels.
  • Maintain compliance with quality, regulatory standards (FDA, ISO 13485, etc.), and internal policies.
  • Adhere to applicable laws and standards to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and executing complex technical projects within clinical environments, with emphasis on radiology, cardiology, RIS, and VNA services.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related field; or equivalent experience. AA with relevant industry experience is acceptable.
  • Proficiency in HL7 and DICOM standards.
  • Strong understanding of databases (SQL, Oracle) and data validation.
  • 4-5 years of HL7 integration experience in hospital settings.
  • Solid knowledge of HL7 v2 segments, DICOM, FHIR, and IHE profiles.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.
  • Experience interfacing with Canadian public health records and diagnostic image exchanges.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Lua, JavaScript, Python, etc.) and interface engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including customer interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving, project management, organization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments, within a matrix structure.
  • Knowledge of healthcare network technologies and hospital workflows.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, hear, and manipulate computer equipment as required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 25%).

Physical Requirements & Travel

This role requires the ability to:

  • Sit for 75-100% of work time.
  • Manipulate objects and use hands for keyboard tasks.
  • Stand, talk, and hear up to 75% of work time.
  • Lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Close visual acuity at twenty inches or less.

Travel may be required, up to approximately 25% based on project needs.

  • Salary range: $89,646.00 - $116,700.20 (depending on experience) + 10% bonus opportunity.
