Location & Schedule

• Location: Houston, TX
• Security Clearance: Public Trust (or ability to obtain)
• Schedule: As-needed, part-time essential services position
• Work is contingent upon available projects, with assignments up to 40 hours per week including day/night shifts, weekends, and holidays

Classification & Compensation

• Classification: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime)
• Hourly Rate: $35.00
• Travel: Travel to client sites required

Job Summary

Our Linguists perform real-time and recorded transcription from Hindi to English to support sensitive law enforcement operations. Your role involves capturing accurate, court-ready documentation; decoding slang, colloquialisms, and coded language; and communicating critical information to law enforcement professionals. Work may include transcriptions from various media formats, such as digital, audio, and video recordings.

This position is ideal for linguists and interpreters comfortable working in fast-paced settings where precision, attention to detail, and clear documentation are paramount. 🔍📝

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Listen to live or recorded Hindi communications and produce verbal and written summaries and transcriptions as per project needs
• Timely communicate relevant information to law enforcement personnel during live monitoring support
• Build and sustain a master list of slang and codes used by targeted groups/organizations throughout the project
• Establish and maintain a voice library for project use
• Transcribe and translate calls and documents assigned by supervisors
• Produce court-ready transcriptions that are accurate, well-formatted, and complete
• Use project-specific reference tools to ensure quality and consistency
• Transcribe at least 16 minutes of recorded conversation daily, adhering to quality standards
• Operate specialized government software and equipment, such as JSI voice box, Pen-Link, and Comverse
• Maintain a daily productivity log according to project requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience: At least one (1) year of translation experience in Hindi
• Language Knowledge: Familiarity with Hindi colloquialisms, slang, and regional expressions
• Technologies: Knowledge of SMS shorthand, social media, and web chat communications
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written skills in Hindi and English, including grammar and spelling
• Ability to score 3 or higher on third-party language assessments (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in both languages
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Strong ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement
• Effective prioritization, time management, and teamwork skills
• Capability to follow technical directions and incorporate feedback
• Typing Speed: 45 words per minute

Security & Background Investigation

Selected candidates will undergo a government background check and may need to meet specific employment conditions:

• Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance
• Favorable credit check, if applicable to Public Trust requirements
