💼 Job Summary

Following established conventions and guidelines, the Medical Coding Specialist will code and abstract inpatient medical records. This includes grouping codes to determine diagnosis-related groupings (DRGs-CMS and/or APR). The role may also involve coding day surgery, emergency, and outpatient records, all while maintaining departmental accuracy and productivity standards.

🔍 Essential Functions

• Codes: Reviews medical records to determine diagnoses and procedures, assigns ICD-10CM/PCS codes.
• Abstracts: Extracts predetermined information from inpatient, surgical, ER, and outpatient records for medical record abstraction.
• Communicates: Ensures effective communication with co-workers and management regarding coding processes and updates.
• Researches: Verifies that records are accurately coded, grouped, and abstracted in compliance with standards.

🎓 Requirements

Minimum formal knowledge equivalent to an Associate’s degree (2 years of college), along with 1-3 years of relevant experience. Certifications include CCS or CCA with 5+ years or RHIT/RHIA.
