About the Role

The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School is looking for a passionate educator to teach Arabic language and culture to high school students. The successful candidate will bring creativity, warmth, and expertise to our classrooms and community.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Experienced Educator: Proven success in teaching Arabic as a second language to high school students using the proficiency model.
• Assessment-Savvy: Skilled in evaluating second language skills with familiarity with recognized standards, especially ACTFL standards.
• Community-Oriented: Willing to actively participate in the school's lively community and collaborate effectively within teams.
• Enthusiastic & Charismatic: Demonstrates warmth, creativity, and a strong passion for teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teaching Arabic language and culture to students in grades 9-12
• Developing curriculum and monitoring student progress
• Sponsoring and overseeing an Arabic Club
• Collaborating within the World Languages Department and High School Faculty
• Providing student advising
• Performing other duties as assigned by the High School Principal

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Arabic, education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
• Minimum of three years of successful high school teaching experience
• Experience with differentiated and student-centered instruction, especially with diverse learning needs (preferred)
• Fluency with technology
• Strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ)
