The Unconventional (TU) is looking for a skilled Transcriber to provide translation, interpretation, and linguistic support for the Department of Justice (DOJ), handling sensitive legal and technical materials across various formats and languages.

Position: Transcriber

Client: Department of Justice (DOJ)

Support Areas: Translation, Interpretation, Transcription, and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS)

The role involves translating a wide variety of documents and media content, including:

• Written and electronic documents
• Audio and video media files (e.g., CDs, .wav files)
• Courts and depositions interpretation

Materials encompass specialized terminology from fields such as:

• Legal, Business, Public Administration
• Medical, Scientific, Financial
• Historical, Geographical, Military
• Technology and sciences (chemical, physical, cyber)

All materials are sensitive and require strict confidentiality and control measures at all times.

🎯 Requirements

🔑 Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years experience in language transcription
• ILR score 3 or higher in listening, comprehension, and writing, or equivalent
• Resided in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years (consecutive not required)
• At least 1 year experience working with law enforcement or legal departments
• U.S. citizen, Naturalized citizen, or Green Card holder with a Social Security Number
• Proficient in both English and the foreign language, including formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual contexts, with knowledge of slang and regionalisms
• Familiar with specialized vocabulary related to government roles and missions in both languages
• Fluent bilingual translation and transcription skills, preserving source tone, meaning, and register
• Adherence to ethical standards for linguists

🔒 Security & Location

• Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
• Location: Remote, National Capitol Region, or various CONUS locations
• Some travel may be required ✈️
