About the JCC East Bay 🏡
The JCC East Bay values hachnasat orchim (welcoming and hospitality) for people of all ages and stages of life. Inspired by Jewish values, culture, and tradition, we foster relationships, promote learning, and provide accessible pathways to Jewish life. Our programs serve children, teens, families, adults, and seniors, operating from North Berkeley and soon opening a new campus in Oakland in the summer of 2026. This new hub will nurture creativity, identity, and connections across generations and cultures, embracing voices from around the world to enrich our community tapestry. Our upcoming flagship campus in Rockridge will house administrative offices and a new preschool opening in fall 2026, alongside continued afterschool programs in Berkeley and Oakland public schools.
Position Summary 🎤
The Hebrew Musician leads monthly Parent & Toddler Music Sessions, engaging young children and their caregivers through music, language, and Jewish cultural elements. This part-time, program-specific role is ideal for a warm, engaging Hebrew-speaking musician passionate about working with families and understanding the importance of music in early childhood development. The role runs once each month from August 2026 through May 2027, creating joyful and inclusive musical experiences that strengthen family bonds and introduce Hebrew language and culture in developmentally appropriate ways.
Key Responsibilities 🎶🤝
Program Facilitation
- Lead interactive, developmentally suitable music sessions for parents and toddlers (ages 14 months to 3 years).
- Design and facilitate a 45-minute structured musical experience within each 1.5-hour session.
- Utilize singing, rhythm, movement, and simple instruments to actively involve young children.
- Encourage parent participation and demonstrate ways families can incorporate music into their home routines.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and joyful environment for families from diverse backgrounds.
Hebrew Language & Cultural Engagement 🌍🎶
- Embed Hebrew naturally through songs, repetition, and musical play.
- Introduce cultural elements related to Jewish and Israeli music and traditions.
- Support early language exposure and cultural connection via music.
Preparation & Collaboration 🤝📋
- Prepare session plans and musical materials ahead of sessions.
- Communicate with JCC staff regarding scheduling, setup, and program needs.
- Support the JCC East Bay’s commitment to accessible, family-centered programming.
Minimum Qualifications ✅
- Fluency in Hebrew (spoken and sung).
- Experience as a musician, with strong vocal skills (instrumental skills a plus).
- Experience working with young children or in early childhood/family settings.
- Background in early childhood education, music education, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Hebrew and Israeli children's songs and cultural repertoire.
- Comfort leading groups of parents and toddlers in interactive settings.
- Ability to create engaging, age-appropriate musical experiences.
- Reliable availability for monthly sessions August 2026 through May 2027.
- Alignment with the mission and values of the JCC East Bay.
Compensation 💰
This is a part-time position remunerated at $125-$150 per session.
