Join Our Team as a Hebrew Language Specialist and Lecturer in Jewish Studies!
KU is seeking a dedicated professional to combine teaching, curriculum development, and program coordination within its Jewish Studies Program, fostering a vibrant community and advancing Hebrew language and culture education.
Position Overview
This dual-role position involves:
- Lectureship duties in the Jewish Studies Program
- Program responsibilities for planning, organizing, and delivering Hebrew Language courses
The courses serve both major and minor degrees in Jewish Studies, as well as Hebrew language and Jewish culture courses for students outside of the major. The Hebrew Language Specialist collaborates closely with the Director of Jewish Studies to develop and implement curricula, provide capstone studies, advise students, recruit new students, and organize university and public events related to Hebrew language and culture.
Position Duration: Academic year, initially three years (August 18, 2025 – May 17, 2028), with a possibility of renewal.

Job Description
🎓 75% - Lecturer Responsibilities
- Teach six (6) courses per academic year (nine to eleven credits each semester), focusing on Hebrew language and Jewish culture courses (levels 100–400), totaling at least 250 student credit hours annually.
- Collaborate with faculty to provide individual or small group capstone courses for degree completion.
- Develop engaging class materials, grade assignments promptly, and communicate student progress clearly.
- Maintain proficiency in instructional technologies to enhance course delivery and develop innovative teaching methods.
- Attend all scheduled classes; arrange online instruction or substitute assignments if absent, ensuring class sessions are never canceled.
- Hold a minimum of three office hours weekly across at least two different days, and accommodate student appointments when necessary.
- Maintain thorough records of student evaluations and provide regular updates to support program assessment.
- Comply with all departmental, College, and University policies.
📝 25% - Academic Program Associate Responsibilities
- Lead planning, organization, and delivery of KU's Hebrew language curriculum.
- Assist the Director in developing and implementing course schedules and curricula for new and existing courses.
- Oversee and implement KU Hebrew guidelines for class placement and assess transfer credits.
- Administer and evaluate student language placement and prior learning assessments.
- Design and execute mechanisms to assess student progress and program effectiveness.
- Organize extracurricular Hebrew activities like roundtables, field trips, and cultural programs.
- Promote Hebrew learning through fairs, flyers, and tabling events, expanding outreach to regional schools and organizations for student recruitment.
- Participate in faculty meetings and departmental committees, contributing to departmental work.
Required Qualifications
- M.A. in Jewish Studies, Hebrew language, or related field, or Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years of proficiency in Hebrew.
- Near-native or native proficiency in modern Hebrew and familiarity with Israeli culture.
- Teaching experience or demonstrated competence in Hebrew courses (e.g., course evaluations, supervisor ratings).
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with educational technology applications in English and Hebrew.
