NICOS Chinese Health Coalition is a collaborative partnership of over 30 health and human service organizations and community members. Since 1985, our organization has been committed to advocacy, research, training, coalition-building, and program implementation to benefit the Chinese population and the organizations serving it.

Position Summary

The Health Educator – Bilingual (English/Cantonese) plays a key role in community outreach and education, focusing on issues such as children’s oral health, problem gambling, language access rights, healthcare access, problematic gaming/screen time, and local community resources. Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, this role involves developing in-language curricula, creating bilingual educational materials across various media, and providing culturally appropriate resource support. This position can be part-time or full-time (30-40 hours/week) based on candidate preference and availability. 💼

Compensation: $22 - $26 per hour + benefits

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Community Outreach & Education: Conduct outreach using NICOS-developed bilingual curricula to raise awareness on health issues impacting the Chinese and broader Asian American communities.
  • Curriculum & Material Development: Create, update, and maintain culturally and linguistically appropriate educational content for sessions and media platforms including radio, TV, print, online, and social media.
  • Presentations & Workshops: Facilitate in-language prevention-focused presentations, workshops, and training sessions within the Chinese community.
  • Resource & Referral Support: Provide culturally responsive guidance and referrals for individuals and families in need.
  • Data Collection & Advocacy: Monitor emerging concerns, collect relevant data, and develop innovative outreach strategies to reach hard-to-reach populations.
  • Program Support: Ensure service integrity, assist in developing reports, coordinate with project teams and partners, and contribute to program development and evaluation.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned to support organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Language Skills: Bilingual and biliterate in English and Chinese (Cantonese required; Mandarin and/or Taishanese a plus).
  • Educational Background: BA/BS in health and human services, public health, social work, education, or related fields; or 4 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Community Experience: Demonstrated ability to work effectively within the Chinese/Asian American community.
  • Outreach Skills: Proven experience in education, training, and outreach activities.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Organizational & Analytical Skills: Strong skills in organization, analysis, and interpersonal relations.
  • Self-Motivation: Initiative, creativity, and the ability to work independently.
  • Mobility: Willing to travel within the San Francisco Bay Area; access to reliable transportation.
  • Additional Knowledge: Understanding of addictions and mental health issues is helpful.
