About Sela Public Charter School 📚
Founded in 2013 and situated in Ward 4, Sela serves approximately 300 students from PreK through 5th grade, embracing a diverse community of learners from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The Role: Head of School 🎓
We are searching for an inspiring leader to begin in SY 2026-2027, who values transparency, effective communication, and academic excellence. The Head of School will champion Sela’s mission of providing a safe, nurturing, and bilingual environment, emphasizing diversity and global engagement.
This leader will oversee the school’s leadership team, collaborate with the Board of Directors, and engage with the DC education community. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with district and state agencies, maintaining high academic standards, and fostering a vibrant, inclusive school culture.
The ideal candidate demonstrates cultural competence, collaboration, empathy, accountability, and a passion for bilingual education—building upon Sela’s strengths and leading the school through its next exciting chapter of growth and renewal.
Key Responsibilities 🔑
- Leadership & Vision: Inspire and unify students, staff, and families around Sela’s mission and vision.
- Academic Excellence: Drive academic performance and set high standards measured by state and charter goals.
- Enrollment & Growth: Increase student enrollment while maintaining diversity; develop effective pipelines for continued growth.
- Community & Culture: Foster an inclusive, joyful school environment that values family and community partnerships.
- Organizational Management: Lead strategic planning, oversee operational and financial health, and ensure compliance with all regulations.
- External Relations & Advocacy: Represent Sela in the wider community, build partnerships, and communicate the school’s successes and values.

Qualifications 🎓
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred in education, administration, or related fields.
- Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience, including instructional and operational oversight.
- Proven success in improving student achievement and fostering an equitable school climate.
- Familiarity with dual-language or immersion education models.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with diverse communities.
- Experience with long-term planning, budgeting, and charter accountability; charter school experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Hebrew preferred; familiarity with Amharic a plus.
Salary & Benefits 💼
We offer a competitive salary range of $170,000 - $200,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package, commensurate with experience.
