Position Overview

The Haitian Creole & French Medical VRI is responsible for providing on-demand audio and video interpreting services to assist our Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and practitioners across sectors such as Healthcare, Government, Community, and Education.

Job Functions

• 🎧 Provide effective video and audio interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• 📝 Capture company-provided data during interpreting sessions when required.
• ⚡ Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and evolving technologies.
• 🤝 Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural guidelines specific to each interpreting context.
• 🌍 Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working within diverse environments.
• 💬 Show respect for and understanding of our LEP clients, including their culture, dialects, beliefs, and preferences.
• ❤️ Exhibit a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• 🎙 Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions.
• 🔊 Speak clearly in both languages, using proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• 🔍 Render accurate concepts and meanings, adhering to interpreter protocols.

Qualifications

• 🗣 Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both Haitian Creole and English (and vice versa).
• 👂 Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills for high accuracy.
• ✅ Successful proficiency assessment completion or holding a national certification.
• 📜 Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (e.g., IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• 🔐 HIPAA compliant work environment.
• 🎂 Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

• ✍️ Ability to read and write in the required languages.
• 🎓 Degrees or certifications in interpreting.
• 🏆 National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, DSHS).
• 🎓 Accredited medical interpreting training (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour courses).

• 🚀 High-speed internet connection; cable or fiber optic preferred.
• 🚪 HIPAA compliant workspace with 4 walls and a lockable door.
• 💻 Computer with a direct connection to the modem.
• 🎬 Home office setup with a blue or green backdrop.
