Position Overview

The Haitian Creole & French Medical VRI Interpreter is responsible for managing on-demand audio and video calls to support our limited English proficient (LEP) community and practitioners across various sectors including Healthcare, Government, Community, and Education.

Job Functions

• 🎯 Provide effective video and audio interpreting sessions professionally.
• 📝 Capture company-provided data during interpreting sessions when required.
• 🔄 Demonstrate adaptability to new and evolving technologies quickly.
• 🤝 Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to the context.
• 🌍 Show cultural sensitivity and operate effectively in diverse environments.
• 🤗 Respect and understand our LEP clients’ culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
• 💼 Exhibit a strong passion for customer service and interpreting.
• 🧑‍💼 Maintain professionalism during all video and audio sessions.
• 🗣️ Speak clearly in both languages, utilizing proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• 🔍 Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocols.

Qualifications

• 🗣️ Fluency and strong verbal communication skills in both Haitian Creole and English.
• 📖 Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking abilities for high accuracy.
• ✔️ Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
• 📜 Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• 🛡️ HIPAA-compliant work environment and settings.
• 🔞 Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications

• ✍️ Ability to read and write fluently in the requested languages.
• 🎓 Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
• 🏥 National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS).
• 📚 Accredited Medical Interpreting Training Course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural Training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).

Technical Requirements

• ⚡ High-speed internet connection; cable or fiber optic preferred.
• 🚪 HIPAA-compliant workspace with four walls and a secure lockable door.
• 💻 Computer must connect directly to the modem.
• 🎨 Home office should have a blue or green backdrop.
• 🔕 Workspace must be quiet and free from distractions such as people, pets, or external noise.
