Job Summary 📝
The Libraries at CU Boulder invite applications for the position of General Collections and Japanese Language Metadata Specialist. Reporting to the Head of the General Collections Cataloging Section, this role involves performing original and adaptive cataloging in various formats, focusing on general collections, Japanese materials, PCC-level cataloging, and collaborating across teams. The Specialist will also support non-MARC metadata, archival descriptions, and acquisitions duties related to Japanese language materials.
Key Responsibilities 🎯
Monographic Cataloging for New Acquisitions, Gifts, and Other Materials
- Catalog newly acquired books, gifts, and materials in diverse formats, adhering to national and local standards.
- Contribute to PCC work by creating BIBCO-level bibliographic records and NACO-level authority records.
- Assist with cataloging CIP titles as part of the Library of Congress CIP Partnership Program.
Monographic Cataloging for Japanese Language Materials
- Perform original and adaptive cataloging of Japanese print and media materials according to established standards.
Collaborative Work 🤝
- Engage in RDS linked data initiatives.
- Support Japanese language needs for non-MARC metadata and archival descriptions.
- Assist Japanese bibliographers with acquisitions and resolve cataloging issues across library units.
Professional Development & Service 🎓
- Engage in ongoing education to stay current with standards, technology, and trends.
- Participate in activities promoting inclusive excellence and professional growth.
- Serve on relevant committees and groups representing the library and professional community.
Procedures and Documentation Maintenance 🗂️
- Collect, update, and publish documentation on library SharePoint sites.
- Archive outdated procedures, ensuring current practices are well-documented.

This position offers a hybrid work modality, with at least three days on-site each week.
Compensation & Benefits 💼
The annual salary range is <$strong>$47,000 - $52,870. A modest relocation stipend may be available according to university guidelines.

Required Qualifications ✅
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (experience may substitute for the degree).
- Proficiency in Japanese and strong English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications ✨
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or related field.
- Knowledge of PCC standards and OCLC Enhance.
- Familiarity with FOLIO LSP.
- Knowledge of additional non-English scripts (Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew).
- At least one year of relevant cataloging experience, including Japanese materials.
- Experience with OCLC and ILS cataloging modules.
