French Teacher - Scarsdale High School (Probationary)
Scarsdale High School is seeking a talented, experienced, and innovative French educator for a probationary position for the 2025–26 school year. Essential Functions
Under the supervision of the High School Principal and World Language Department Chair, responsibilities include:
- Developing students' proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing French
- Cultivating an appreciation for the native cultures of French-speaking countries
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction
- Proficiency in French language, including grammar, vocabulary, literature, and cultural context
- Familiarity with data systems, analysis, and action planning
- Understanding of federal and state education laws
- Competence in computer and software applications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability for self-evaluation and professional growth
- Capability to establish cooperative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Additional Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing curriculum aligned with district goals
- Creating a safe and engaging classroom environment conducive to diverse learning styles
- Preparing engaging lesson plans, instructional materials, and cultural activities
- Teaching language skills including comprehension, grammar, syntax, and translation
- Promoting understanding and appreciation of French-speaking cultures
- Assisting students with projects for publications and contests
- Assessing student progress and adjusting instruction as needed, including support for students with special needs
- Continuing professional development through seminars, workshops, and research
- Maintaining accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and behavior
- Encouraging parental involvement and ensuring effective communication
- Managing student conduct to sustain a positive learning environment
- Collaborating with faculty and participating in meetings and committees
- Requisitioning instructional materials and maintaining inventory
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years successful foreign language teaching experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field from an accredited institution
- Master’s degree preferred
- NYS Initial or Professional French certification (7-12); additional language certification optional
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide personal transportation

Travel Requirements
Willingness to travel between district buildings and professional meetings as needed.
Equipment
Proficiency with standard office tools, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephones.
Other Tasks
Performing additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
