Job Goals

  • Motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language.
  • Introduce students to the cultures of countries where the foreign language is spoken.
  • Discover and nurture students' talents in foreign language communication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama teaching certificate.
  • Ability to meet employment and certification/licensure criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emphasizing communication and teamwork with diverse groups.
  • Fluency in English and the assigned foreign language(s) for instruction.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programs specific to foreign language instruction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills as a collaborative team member.
  • Effective use of technology for communication, planning, instruction, data management, and reporting.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job duties.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates support for the school system’s vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Establishes a positive classroom climate and effectively manages foreign language instruction.
  • Provides high-quality foreign language learning experiences for students.
  • Plans lessons aligned with the established curriculum.
  • Models innovative use of technology for students.
  • Utilizes innovative teaching techniques and technology tools to facilitate instruction and student engagement.
  • Evaluates student progress based on course objectives and grading standards.
  • Communicates proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Teaches language skills and cultural knowledge using a variety of media and digital tools.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction tailored to student needs.
  • Develops students' understanding and appreciation of the cultures related to the studied language.
  • Maintains classroom discipline to ensure an orderly, productive learning environment.
  • Evaluates and reports students’ progress in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Assists in selecting and requisitioning instructional materials and maintains inventory records.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors regarding student progress.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with staff to support health, attitude, and learning improvements.
  • Maintains professional growth through in-service activities and workshops.
  • Adheres to school policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and exhibits leadership and ethical standards.
  • Participates in staff development programs at local, state, and national levels.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school and workplace matters.
  • Proactively seeks improvement opportunities within the scope of responsibilities.
  • Responds promptly and positively to inquiries and requests.
  • Prepares and submits reports, records, and correspondence accurately and timely.
  • Cares for equipment and resources responsibly.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a team and reports absences per policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
