About the Role
As a French/Hausa Linguist at Leidos, you will perform complex linguistic tasks with precision and cultural insight, supporting translation, interpretation, transcription, and gisting. Your expertise will play a crucial role in national security efforts.
What You’ll Do

Translation
- Accurately translate materials (digital and hard copy) from French/Hausa into English and vice versa.
- Capture nuanced cultural references, subtle meanings, and abstract concepts with contextual accuracy.
- Identify geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural references effectively.
- Use terminology aligned with subject matter norms in both languages.

Interpretation
- Provide consecutive interpretation; occasional simultaneous interpretation may be required.
- Maintain high fidelity and fluency, demonstrating understanding of dialects and cultural contexts.

Transcription
- Listen to audio or review online content to produce accurate transcriptions.
- Create high-quality English reports from audio-visual materials.
- Demonstrate understanding of dialectical variations.

Gisting and Summarization
- Identify and summarize key facts and abstract concepts accurately.
- Extract critical information from large datasets.
- Utilize reference materials to support high-quality output.
Security Clearance Requirements
Applicants must have a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph that is fully adjudicated prior to starting work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) and/or equivalent military training with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2-6 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may substitute for a degree.
- Translation and/or interpretation degree is highly desirable.
- Experience with Health Language Technology (HLT) is a plus.
- Successful completion of a Leidos-administered language proficiency test or equivalent at the Primary level or higher.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online research tools.
- All candidates must pass language assessments administered by Leidos or an approved vendor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting deployed contingency operations as a linguist.
- Familiarity with U.S. Intelligence, military, or law enforcement environments.
- Ability to brief and communicate findings effectively to various stakeholders.
- Proficiency in multiple languages is a significant advantage.
Additional Information
- Participation in sponsor-related training is mandatory.
- All candidates must pass medical and physical screenings, as well as weapons training.
- This is a hybrid position requiring travel OCONUS, with 24/7 support available during travel.
