Position: French Bilingual Parent Coordinator
Location: Urbana Early Childhood School
Supervisor: Reports directly to the UECS principal
Job Summary
The French Bilingual Parent Coordinator acts as a liaison between the school and French-speaking families, providing outreach, support services, and coordinating family education and school involvement activities for all French-speaking students.
Essential Functions
To perform this role successfully, the individual must be able to:
- Assist families with enrollment processes and completing necessary forms.
- Educate families unfamiliar with the school system and how to advocate for their children.
- Translate oral and written communications, including newsletters, classroom materials, memos, and forms.
- Interpret during parent conferences and meetings.
- Communicate with teachers and office staff regarding family inquiries and updates.
- Collaborate with social workers to connect families with community resources such as childcare, health, food, clothing, and housing.
- Coordinate and assist with school events like carnivals, open houses, field trips, and park district activities.
- Support classroom teachers by helping with small groups and assessments.
- Participate in school family events and after-hours meetings.
- Join social workers or staff on home visits when needed.
- Help school staff understand and incorporate French-speaking family culture into the classroom.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by building or district administration.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or an Associate Degree with substantial work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Fluency in both French and English bilingualism.
- Knowledge of school and education terminology.
- Proficiency in computers and technology tools.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Terms of Employment
- Benefit details available on the Human Resources webpage.
- Not part of the collective bargaining unit; this is a non-exempt position.
- Work schedule: 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week.
- Pay rate: $20.14/hour 💵
- Includes Student Contact Days and other designated days per the work calendar.
Evaluation & Starting Date
This position will be evaluated according to the Board's policies on support personnel performance.
Start Date: August 12, 2026
