Piedmont Global Language Solutions (PGLS) serves both the international and local communities in the Metro Washington DC area with comprehensive language services, including interpretation, translation, transcription, language instruction, cultural sensitivity training, and localization. Our extensive network of language professionals covers over 200 languages, including regional dialects.

Position Overview

We are seeking Freelance Interpreters for in-person educational and medical interpreting in the West Chester, PA area. These are 1099 (Independent Contractor) roles, with interpretation taking place onsite.

Interpreter Responsibilities 🗣️

• Serve as an interpreter between diverse individuals, accommodating various voices, accents, speaking tempos, and personalities.
• Deliver clear and precise verbal translations without additions or omissions.
• Interpret questions, answers, statements, arguments, explanations, and other verbal communications.
• Render sight translations of documents and written materials as needed.
• Convey the speaker’s thought, purpose, emotions, and tone from the source to the target language, and vice versa.
• Notify relevant parties of any factors that may impact interpreting performance.
• Adhere to applicable ethical standards and guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements 🎓

Minimum Qualifications (Non-Medical Settings):

• At least 2 years of interpreting experience (paid or volunteer)
• Two professional references verifying interpreting work OR one reference and one professional recommendation letter
• Native-level proficiency in English and another language
• Completion of at least 40 hours of professional interpreter training (preferred)

Additional Requirements:

• Hold a valid US driver’s license or US government-issued ID
• Obtain Pennsylvania clearances:
  • Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check
  • Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI)
• Complete a 1-hour online training session
• Preferred: University degree in Interpretation

Optional but Advantageous:

• Provide proof of certifications
• Share test results from testing organizations, LSPs, or other entities
