🌟 Role Overview

As a freelance language professional with AAC, you will provide top-tier interpretation, translation, and editing services specialized in legal contexts. This role involves working remotely with flexible hours and involves a variety of languages, including but not limited to:

• Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Bengali, Bosnian
• Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish
• Dari, Dutch, Estonian, Farsi, Finnish
• French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian

• Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Moldovan, Norwegian

• Urdu, Vietnamese, Yiddish

🎯 Key Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation services during legal proceedings including meetings, depositions, hearings, and trials.
• Translate legal documents such as contracts, court documents, and legal correspondence with accuracy and efficiency.
• Edit and proofread translations to ensure clarity, accuracy, and proper legal terminology.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all interpreted and translated materials.
• Collaborate with project managers and other professionals to meet deadlines and client expectations.
• Stay informed on legal terminology and industry best practices.
• Continuously improve language skills and legal subject matter expertise.

📝 Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required, in accordance with AAC's contractual obligations.
• At least three years of professional experience in interpretation, translation, or editing of complex and technical content, including legal, medical, or scientific materials.
• Familiarity with legal and technical terminology.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degrees are a plus.
• Active certification (e.g., court-certified interpreter) or registration for federal or state court interpretation.
• Membership or certification from ATA or NAJIT is highly preferred.
• Active Public Trust or higher government clearance is advantageous.
• Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; experience with Trados and CAT tools is a plus.
• Ability to operate virtual platforms such as WebEx, MS Teams, and Zoom for VRI assignments.
