Background
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) leads in security management for the United Nations, ensuring safe and effective delivery of missions in challenging environments worldwide. Operating under a clear mission, UNDSS maximizes resources to provide trusted security solutions that enable UN programs and activities. In Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory (IOPT), UNDSS supports UN agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to conduct their operations as safely as possible. This role offers a unique chance to gain valuable security expertise and make a meaningful difference in global peace and human rights efforts.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of Field Security Coordination Officers (FSCOs) and the supervision of the Security Coordination Officer, the Field Security Associate will support the implementation of security operations and safety management of UN personnel.
- Security Information Management:
- Assist the ASA/FSCO in collecting, updating, and communicating security situation updates in the area.
- Coordinate with local security authorities, military, police, NGOs, and other non-state actors.
- Assess the security environment at the duty station and verify relevant information.
- Provide security updates to UN agency heads and advise on host country security matters.
- Maintain contact with Security Focal Points and support security meetings.
- Security Planning & Compliance:
- Assist in maintaining and updating the Security Plan and staff lists.
- Help monitor compliance with Security Risk Management (SRM) measures.
- Conduct inspections of UN premises and field locations.
- Compile and analyze security compliance reports, identifying gaps.
- Support staff training to promote security awareness.
- Incident Reporting & Management:
- Report and analyze security incidents affecting UN and INGO/IO staff and assets.
- Draft security incident reports and maintain incident databases.
- Disseminate key findings to inform security assessments and decisions.
- Security Training & Briefings:
- Organize and support security awareness sessions and orientations for new staff.
- Conduct security briefings for staff and visitors on current security situations.
- Security Evaluation & Administrative Support:
- Assist with security evaluations and provide advice on residential security measures.
- Maintain wardenship systems, ID and pass systems, and contact databases.
- Perform administrative tasks including correspondence, appointment scheduling, and meeting notes.
- Additional Duties: Perform any other duties necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Educational & Professional Qualifications
Education:
- Secondary Education required, or
- A first-level university degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Management, Security Management, or related fields (considered beneficial but not mandatory).
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years with a high school diploma or 3 years with a bachelor’s degree in relevant humanitarian, security, or management fields.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Proficiency in MS Office and web/smartphone applications.
- Ability to work on rotational shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Valid driver’s license (Class C).
Desired Skills:
- Experience within the UN system, INGOs, or international organizations.
- Experience in emergency operations and web-based management systems.
Language Requirements
Fluency in English, Arabic, and Hebrew is essential.
